Volunteer Return Preparation Program (VRPP)

The College of Business and Behavioral Science (CBBS) has partnered with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to offer volunteer tax return preparation and free tax filing to low-income individuals, elderly, individuals with disabilities and those who practice English as a second language. This exciting project will put you in contact with the community while offering a challenging and rewarding experience in preparing tax returns.

CBBS has confirmed site locations at public libraries in Central, Easley and Seneca. The tax season can start as early as mid- January and can last until April 15th. The public libraries are convenient to the local community: they are open at least 6 days a week, and their hours accommodate most anyone’s schedule.

Benefits to you include:

  • Earn community service credit for classes, service organizations or social groups
  • Help less fortunate citizens within the local community
  • Work experience for your resume
  • Learn to prepare tax returns for yourself and your family.

Some examples of what volunteers can do are:

  • Contact local agencies to promote the program
  • Help individuals organize their paperwork and monitor the flow of appointments
  • Be an interpreter with the local Spanish speaking community
  • Work with individuals to prepare 1040EZ, 1040A and 1040 tax returns. If you plan to volunteer to prepare tax returns, training for the program can start as early as November; you can choose from instructor-lead, on-line or self-study training courses.
