Junior / Senior Initiatives 2008-2009

 

Professional Student Travel

Fifty psychology majors will apply for a stipend for either: (a) travel expenses to regional or national conventions at which they are a co-author on a research presentation, or (b) a study abroad experience via submission of e-portfolio of the study abroad experience.  For the latter, the students will receive the stipend upon submission of an e-portfolio that documents experiences, which contributed to learning outcomes for, study abroad, including intercultural development, personal development, and professional development.

Scantron Machine

Purchase of a scantron machine that undergraduate students may use to conduct their research, much of which is in survey form. The scantron machine will be located in the common-use research area that will be created in the department during the Summer 2008.  This room will be adjacent to (and open from) the newly created undergraduate research meeting room.

Storage Tower Units

Purchase of 10 storage tower units for undergraduate research teams to store their research materials and results. The storage units will be placed in the storage room that has been set aside specifically for undergraduate research. The storage room opens from the newly created undergraduate research meeting room.

 

Past Enhancements

During the academic year of 2007/2008 the Psychology Department funded the following Junior/Senior Enhancement activities:

  1. Travel for six undergraduate students to study abroad in the Brussels program during Summer 2008.
  2. Travel for five undergraduate students who attended the Southeast Psychological Association annual conference to present posters of their research results.
  3. Paid Dr. Pam Alley for summer advising of undergraduate students and to edit the Psychology Undergraduate Handbook.
  4. Paid Dr. Ben Stephens for summer advising of undergraduate students.
  5. Purchased furniture in the new undergraduate conference room. The new room (created this year from renovations paid with departmental funds) will be used almost exclusively for undergraduate meetings and for undergraduates engaged in research to collect data.
  6. Purchased corkboards to be used in the new undergraduate conference room, so that students may display their research posters.
