1. Hosted Annual Recruiters' Picnic
2. Funds for Student Travel, Leadership Conferences Memberships, including:
- Beta Alpha Psi, International Meeting, Anaheim, CA (6 students, 1 advisor)
- Beta Alpha Psi, Regional Meeting and Leadership Conference, Nashville, TN (7 students, 1 advisor)
- Institute of Management Accountants, National Student Leadership Conference, Jacksonville, FL (7 students, 1 advisor)
- South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants’ Student Day (25 students)
- Professional (student) memberships for students participating in our programs
Past Enhancements
1. Create a Jr./Sr. Accounting Career Advisor:
Mary Ann Prater – Continued to use Mary Ann Prater as the School's career advisor and advisor to the student Accounting and Financial Professionals organization.
Career advisor responsibilities include:
- Helping each student identify his/her career and certification goals and what level of education is needed to obtain those goals (BS or MPAcc).
- Emphasizing the benefits of meeting professionals and networking through Beta Alpha Psi and the Accounting and Financial Management Professionals organization.
- Emphasizing the benefits of interning and help the individual student find the internship that is right for that student.
- Identifying new internship opportunities, as demand requires.
- Emphasize the opportunities available through the Michelin Career Center, e.g., one-on-one interview coaching, resume critique, job and internship fairs, and workshops.
- Overseeing the activities and scheduling of the Accounting and Financial Management Professionals organization. Take students to the national IMA leadership conference.
2. Recruiters' Picnic:
Pre-recruiting event with accounting firms and companies’ recruiters and students. Allows for conversation in a relaxed environment prior to the start of on-campus interviews.
3. Student Travel to Professional Meetings and Dues:
Continued to fund travel for outstanding students to professional meetings:
- Beta Alpha Psi International Meeting, Chicago, IL.
8 students and1 advisor. Our chapter co-hosted and worked registration at the 2008 meeting - Beta Alpha Psi Regional Meeting, Charlotte, NC
13 students and 1 advisor. We hosted and ran the regional meeting in 2008. - Lean Accounting Summit, Orlando, FL
1 student. - Institute of Management Accountants National Student Leadership Conference, Louisville, KY
8 students and 1 advisor. - Professional (student) memberships for students participating in our programs
26 students. - Mileage for local travel for student field trips to firms and companies.
