Leap’s New Book on White Collar Crime Due For Release in February
White collar crime is an unfortunate reality for the management world. In attempts to better understand this phenomenon, Clemson University professor of management Terry Leap explores it in his book, “Dishonest Dollars.” The book, which is soon to be released, discusses both highly publicized and lesser known cases of white collar crime.
"There's just so much of it," Leap said, "and not much of it gets publicized."
To scout out the numerous cases of white collar crime, Leap collected written accounts of crimes, explored various websites such as the FBI's, and sifted through print material like the Wall Street Journal, Business Week, and local publications like the Greenville News. His stories range from the scheme of a so-called health food salesman falsely advertising high-fat donuts as "diet" to scams of Enron proportions.
From this research, Leap's book presents a model of motivations behind white collar crime, taking into consideration individual, societal, and organizational influences, as well as the role of rationalization.
"Dishonest Dollars" is scheduled for publication in February 2007 by Cornell University Press.
