David Bodde Edits Book On The Science of Risk In Business
Clemson University professor David Bodde is the editor of a book on applying scientific principles of risk to business ventures. The newly-released book, “Managing Enterprise Risk: What The Electric Industry Implies for Contemporary Business," explores business risks by asking what elements of a venture are known, unknown, and unknowable.
After a discussion of the general concept with colleagues, Bodde says, "The idea just came to me…you can apply risk principles to the business situation of the electric industry."
Bodde used his experience as a board member for the electric industry Great Plains Energy to inform his work. After four years in production, the resulting book is a compilation of writings from international expert scholars. Karyl B. Cessio and Marilyn L. Taylor, both professors at University of Missouri Kansas City, co-edited with Bodde.
Managing Enterprise Risk was funded by the University of Missouri at Kansas City's Sloan Foundation and published by Elsevier. Bodde is senior fellow in the Spiro Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, housed in the College of Business and Behavioral Science, and director of innovation and public policy for CU-ICAR.
