In the College of Business and Behavioral Science (CBBS), we have one goal: to enhance Clemson’s legacy of leaders and learners though the creation and dissemination of knowledge in a unique environment combining business and behavioral science. CBBS, the only business school in the nation that offers this dynamic, collaborative environment, is home to Clemson’s largest student body and an outstanding faculty.
The College is undergoing a number of changes that will better prepare our students for their futures. We are building our international partnerships, providing free professional development workshops and actively engaging our students in real-world classroom and research activities. We have added a number of new faculty and upgraded facilities to support our ever-growing student body.
We hope that as you see the changes and events in our College, you will also see how you can continue to reconnect with your alma mater. We invite you to return to the College of Business and Behavioral Science as a mentor, speaker or guest.

Thanks to a team from Clemson University, Upstate companies have a new means for measuring their economic strength: the GSA Business Index.
The index, which covers the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson areas, is the result of work by Dr. John Alexander, Breazeale Professor of Investments and director of the Clemson Trading Room, MBA student Bob Ruff and undergraduate student Jordan Griggs. The idea came from a paper written by Alexander and Dr. Bruce Yandle, dean emeritus of the College of Business and Behavioral Science.
In addition to serving as an economic indicator for the GSA area, Alexander believes that the index may be useful in predicting changes in employment rates and employee compensations. The construction of this index gives it an advantage relative to other regional indexes when it comes to analyzing the relation between the welfare of the community and of the companies residing within that community.
Using the same framework as the GSA Index, Alexander and his team are finishing up a South Carolina index. In addition to the Upstate, the statewide index has components for the Midlands and Lowcountry. |

Driving While Texting
According to a collaborative study by researchers in psychology and civil engineering, text messaging and using iPods while driving caused drivers to leave their lanes 10 percent more often in a simulated driving study. Drivers completed tasks such as talking on cell phones, text messaging and operating MP3 players. No reduction for lane-keeping was shown by drivers talking on cell phones.
Dr. Johnell Brooks, one of the psychology researchers, noted that texting while driving is illegal in only one state, but at least six others are considering legislations to make it illegal.
