Q:  How do students fund their MBA?

A:  Graduate Assistantships
- Assistantships, which carry a substantial tuition reduction, a stipend of $3,000 US per semester, and require 15 hours of work per week on business-based projects, are available on a limited basis to highly qualified applicants.  All applicants are automatically considered for an assistantship.

US-based Loans - Most financial aid received by Clemson MBA students who are U.S. citizens is in the form of loans.  The primary loan program for US citizens is the Stafford Loan.  The amount awarded is based on need.  For more information, visit Clemson's Office of Student Financial Aid ( http://virtual.clemson.edu/group/finaid/).

International applicants - All international applications are required to provide proof of financial support for their degree.  International students are also encouraged to research other sources of funding within their own countries.  These can include government scholarships and loans, private agencies, and bank loans.  In addition, in some countries the U.S. government may offer assistance programs.  Please check with the U.S. Embassy in your country for further information.

Minority US applicants - Clemson University has diversity fellowships, which are determined by need and academic excellence.  You may contact Jerry Knighton from Access & Equity, E103 Martin Hall, 864/656-3184, knightl@clemson.edu for more information regarding these fellowships.

Funding from other sources - To help minimize your reliance on debt financing, we encourage you to search for outside sources of funding.  For full-time students, most US public libraries and on-line resources contain extensive reference materials on scholarship searches.  You may also find the following sites of use:

 - FinAid (www.finaid.org )
 - FastWeb ( www.fastweb.monster.com)
 - College NET ( www.collegenet.com)

Q:   Can the application fee be waived?
A:
Clemson's Graduate School sets the fee at a level which just covers their costs. They will not waive the application fee.

Admissions and Course Transfer:

Q:   How do I apply to your program?
The requirements for applying to the Clemson MBA Program are available at: http://business.clemson.edu/mba/info/Applinfo.htm

Q:   How should I study for the GMAT?
A:
Although each individual is different in their study skills and approaches, the following might be helpful:

- Free GMAT preparation software can be downloaded from http://www.mba.com/mba/TaketheGMAT/TaketheGMAT.htm#ToolsToHelpYouPrepare .

- It is also a good idea to invest in a study guide with a CD of sample tests in the back.  These are available at most bookstores.

Official GMAT scores are good for 5 years.

Q:   What other criteria do you use to make your admissions decision?
A
:   The admissions process takes into consideration a number of different inputs. Besides your GPA and GMAT, we look at your letters of recommendation, resume, an interview (Career Launch only), and statement of purpose to get a feel for your individual strengths and work experience. We evaluate your major(s) and the schools you attended to determine the strength of your academic background.

Q:   Is work experience required?
A:
Although work experience is highly desirable, individuals with strong academic backgrounds in a non-business undergraduate major may be admitted into the Career Launch program without work experience.  Career Accelerator and undergraduate business majors need at least two years of work experience for consideration.

Q: What are your prerequisite requirements?
A:
None

Q:   What are your admission deadlines?
A:
The admission deadline are:
Fall Entrance:                April 15 for international applicants to allows time to receive the visa papers.
June 15 for U.S. citizens and permanent residents.  In certain cases we may accept your                                   application if submitted a bit later. Contact the MBA Office (email: MBA@clemson.edu)                                  for further information.
Spring Entrance:          November 1
Summer Entrance:      March 15

Q:   Can I apply on-line?
A:
Yes. The on-line application is available at: http://www.grad.clemson.edu/admission/ApplyOnline.php.

Q:   How can I check on the status of my application?
A:
If you have web access, you may check the status of your application on-line at http://www.grad.clemson.edu/ApplicationCheck.php. Please have your student identification number available. If you have a U.S. Social Security Number, then use this as your student identification number. If you are an international applicant, use the number that was assigned to you on your application. This number begins with the letters NR.

Q:  What are your areas of emphasis?
A:
In the Career Launch MBA we offer four areas of emphasis:  Innovation & Entrepreneurial Leadership, Supply Chain & Information Management, Real Estate, or Marketing Management.  In addition, individuals pursuing two graduate degrees (e.g. MBA & an MS or MA, MBA / PhD) focus their MBA emphasis on the subject on their second degree. The Career Accelerator MBA does not require an emphasis area, however students may do one in Health Services if they wish.

Q: Can I combine the full-time MBA with another graduate degree and earn both at the same time?
A:
Yes, if admitted to both degree programs, you may pursue two graduate degrees at the same time.  Up to one-sixth (1/6) of the total graded course work may be used toward both degrees as long as it is approved by both degree programs.  A typical approach is to take a 30-hour master's program, such as civil engineering, combined with the 61-hour MBA program and complete both degrees in two and a half years.  Examples of other master's degrees that MBA's have earned in this program include MS in Marketing, MPC (Professional Communications), MS in Bioengineering, MPACC (Accounting), MS in Computer Science, PhD in Parks Tourism and Recreation, …

Q:   I took some MBA classes at another university; can I transfer them into your program?
A:
We allow a maximum of 12 acceptable, graduate-level semester hours (4 graduate-level classes) to be transferred from an acceptable university (AACSB accredited) to count toward the Clemson MBA degree. If you take more than 4 acceptable classes that could have transferred and if they duplicate material in Clemson's program, you will not need to retake these subjects. However, you will be required to take additional electives to make up the hours not taken.
