Accounting- Internships & Co-ops

The School encourages everyone to intern or co-op at least once during their undergraduate program. Internships and co-ops in public accounting are available during the spring and summer semesters. Industry, government, and not for profit internships are usually summer experiences.

Ideally students should complete two internship or co-op experiences: one in industry, government, or a not for profit entity during the summer between their junior and senior years, and another in public accounting in the spring semester of their senior year. These experiences will help you decide whether they should begin your professional career in industry, government, not for profit, or public accounting.

If you anticipate enrolling in the MPAcc program, you may intern or co-op in the spring semester of your senior year, complete your degree requirements during the summer, and begin the graduate program in the fall.

Three hours of accounting internship credit is available through ACCT 399 which must be completed at the time you intern or co-op. An additional three hours of internship credit may be obtained through FIN 399, and used to satisfy elective requirements within your curriculum.

Questions about accounting internship and co-ops should be addressed to the school's internship coordinator, Professor Mary Ann Prater, (402 Sirrine Hall, 864-656-3774, maryann@clemson.edu).

Law Internships & Co-ops

For information regarding internships or co-ops in law contact Professor Virginia Ward-Vaughn (306 Sirrine Hall, 864-656-5290, ward@clemson.edu). Internship or co-op credit may be obtained through LAW 399, which must be completed at the time you intern or co-op. Students pursuing a minor in legal studies, may substitute LAW 399 for one of the LAW option courses.

Internship & Co-op Interviews

Companies interviewing for internships usually arrange to interview through the Michelin Career Center. To be considered for an interview you must attend a Career Center workshop, publish your resume on ClemsonJobLink, and indicate with whom you would like to interview. Internship providers receive your resume from ClemsonJobLink, and from the resumes provided select the candidates they wish to interview. Please be advised that each interview has deadlines for filing a request to be considered for an interview. For more information consult the Career Center's web site, or contact Ms. Deborah Herman, Internship Coordinator/Career Counselor (dherman@clemson.edu).

Co-op interviews and experiences are coordinated through the Office of Cooperative Education (321 Brackett Hall, 864-656-3150). Normally, Co-op students complete three semesters of full-time work experience, in a semester on, semester off format. For more information consult the Office of Cooperative Education's web site, or drop by Brackett Hall to talk to a co-op counselor.
