The courses offered in the undergraduate program expose students

a range of sociological knowledge about the power of culture and social
structure
in the emergence of self and human behavior. Topics include: marriage
and
family, mass media, criminal justice, sex roles, race and
ethnicity, developing
societies, work and religion.. Our courses provide training in the
methods
and theory of interpersonal behavior, social groups, and social
organization.
The Sociology Honors Program is available to exceptional students who
desire
an in-depth research or investigative experience. In these times of
turbulent
organizational and personal environments, there are increasing needs
for
the gathering and interpretation of quality information. Our programs
are
designed to serve that need.
Surveys of the job market show that employers often seek sociology majors to fill positions in administration, supervision, management, public relations, social services, law enforcement and research. Key factors in this growing success in the job market are communication skills, research skills, administration skills, and data application and classification skills. In addition, interpersonal skills, intellectual abilities, and motivation for advancement, and the awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity give one a competitive edge in the job market. Sociology majors have a unique opportunity to develop these and other skills as part of their studies at Clemson University.
