Scott Ellis,
Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Management at Clemson
University, received the 2008 Elwood S. Buffa Doctoral
Dissertation Award from the Decision Sciences Institute. The
purpose of this award is to encourage and publicize outstanding
dissertation research by selecting and recognizing the best
doctoral dissertations written during 2007 in the decision
sciences. Professor Ellis’s dissertation, entitled “Toward
Supplier Portfolio Management Theory: An Empirical Study of
Buyer-Supplier Relationships in the U.S. Automotive Industry”,
investigates how buyers manage suppliers to achieve performance
advantages in the automotive industry. The dissertation
competition received 20 submissions from the world’s leading
degree-granting research institutions. Dissertations were
judged by a panel of 44 researchers who are recognized as
scholarly leaders of decision science research.
