Huron Consulting Group commits $250,000 to the Clemson Institute for the Study of Capitalism

Clemson -- Huron Consulting Group of Chicago, Illinois has pledged a five-year gift of $250,000 to the Clemson Institute for the Study of Capitalism.

The Clemson Institute for the Study of Capitalism is America’s first and only university-based teaching and research center dedicated to exploring the moral foundations of capitalism.  The Institute is currently building an academic program at Clemson University that will provide an integrated curriculum of courses, seminars, and lectures on the moral, political and economic foundations of a free society.  The Clemson Institute also hosts an annual lecture series, various public debates and symposia, and it holds annual conferences for college students and professors from around the United States and abroad.

The Huron gift will be used to support and expand the Clemson Institute’s academic program on the moral foundations of capitalism.  In particular, the funding will be used to sponsor the teaching of a course on the moral foundations of capitalism.

Scott Gillis (Founder and Managing Director of Galt & Company, now a division of Huron Consulting Group), who brought the Clemson Institute to the attention of Huron CEO and Chairman, Gary Holdren, said this about the gift:  “Capitalism provides the essential underpinning for freedom, liberty and self determination.  My partners and I have spent our professional lives helping companies ‘win’ in the capital markets.  We hope this donation helps capitalism ‘win’ the hearts and minds of our next generation of leaders.” Holdren himself noted, We at Huron believe that helping companies and individuals increase wealth is a real advantage to our whole US economy and why we have the strongest country in the world.

“We are delighted and honored that Huron Consulting Group has made this remarkably generous gift to the Clemson Institute for the Study of Capitalism.  It’s not too often that one meets businessmen who understand that the survival of capitalism depends on an appreciation for, and a defense of, its deeper moral foundations,” said C. Bradley Thompson, Executive Director of the Clemson Institute.  “Gary Holdren, and Scott Gillis, are two such businessmen,” Thompson noted.

Brad Thompson has also been named a Huron Consulting Scholar.
