LTC Choi

Lieutenant Colonel Fredrick S. Choi assumed command of the Clemson University Fightin' Tiger Battalion on June 26, 2006, following a tour of duty at the Third US Army/US Army Central/Coalition Forces Land Component Command.

 He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1986 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in Field Artillery.  Additionally, he has received Master of Business Administration from Baker University in 2000.

 During Lieutenant Colonel Choi's early career, he served in the Third Armored Division as a Field Artillery aerial fire support officer.  In 1990, he attended the initial entry rotary wing training and began a career in Army Aviation. Upon completion of the flight school, Lieutenant Colonel Choi was assigned to 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry, the 82nd Airborne Division's division cavalry, as the Assistant S3 then as the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior Troop Commander preparing for Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti. 

Lieutenant Colonel Choi's key staff assignments include:  Aide-de-Camp and Assistant Executive Officer to Commanding General, US Army Forces Command, S3 of 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry and 1st Battalion, 25th Infantry Division in Schofield Barracks, HI, Aviation Task Force S3 in support of Operation Joint Forge (Stabilization Force 11) in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Executive Officer to G3, US Army Pacific at Ft Shafter, HI, Deputy Chief of Operations of Third US Army/US Army Central/Coalition Forces Land Component Command at Ft McPherson, GA, and Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.  Most recently, Lieutenant Colonel Choi was assigned as the Chief of Training and Exercises Division for the Third US Army/US Army Central/Coalition Forces Land Component Command where he was responsible for establishing pre-deployment training requirements for all US deploying forces to Iraq, planning and executing joint and combined exercises with nine countries in the Middle East, .

 Duty in Operations Joint Forge (Stabilization Force 11), Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom, to include a counter-narcotics mission in California with the Joint Task Force 6, has given Lieutenant Colonel Choi a full-spectrum of experience in joint and combined war fighting operations.

His military education includes the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Airborne School, Aerial Fire Support Officer Course, Initial Entry Rotary Wing School, Aviation Officer Advanced Course, Air Assault School, Jumpmaster School, Operational Research and Systems Analysis Course, and Command and General Staff Officer Course.

 Lieutenant Colonel Choi's military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (2 awards), the Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary Medals, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the NATO Medal, the Joint Military Unit Award, the Army Service Unit Award, the Army Aviator Badge, the Senior Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.

 Lieutenant Colonel Choi is married to the former Mary Boyce Tilley and has one son (Nicholas) and one daughter (Anna).
