MS III Instructor (Juniors), MAJ William A. Matheny

MAJ William A. Matheny was assigned to the Clemson University Fightin’ Tiger Battalion in June 2009 as an assistant professor of military leadership.

Prior to this assignment, he served in the Facilities Management Office, Headquarters, SC Military Department as the Branch Chief, Project Management and Design.

MAJ Matheny was commissioned as a 2LT in the Corps of Engineers upon graduation from Clemson University in August 2000.

Immediately following completion of the Engineer Officer Basic Course in February 2001, he was assigned to 10th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Georgia. On September 11, 2001, MAJ Matheny was assigned as Platoon Leader, 2nd Platoon, B Company, 10th Engineers, then Company Executive Officer for B Company in October 2002. In October 2002, he deployed to Operation Desert Fox in Kuwait then supported 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division’s push to Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom in March 2003. MAJ Matheny was assigned as the Battalion Maintenance Officer for 10th Engineers in August 2003 and remained in that position until August 2004.

In February 2005, MAJ Matheny left active duty and was assigned as the Assistant S-3, 122nd Engineer Battalion, SC Army National Guard. In June 2006, he assumed command of A Company, 122nd Engineer Battalion (Corps) (Wheel) and led the company through a successful rotation to Operation Jump Start in support of the Arizona border mission. He remained in that command until being transferred to 122nd Engineer Company (Combat Support Equipment) in October 2007. MAJ Matheny commanded 122nd CSE through their transformation and redesignation as 124th Engineer Company (Horizontal) until June 2009.
